KENNEL STORIES: THE CAMLOCH NAME David Hansen
By Krista Hansen
In 1989, the same year we were married, we purchased
our foundation bitch. The breeder of this puppy pointed
out to us that this was the time to decide on the name
we would breed under, our kennel name. She suggested combining
our names, or using a name related to where we lived.
Neither suggestion appealed to me. I wanted something
authentic and special, something that spoke of the origin
of a breed I loved. I purchased a map of Scotland and
spent hours pouring over names of cities, landmarks, lakes
(lochs), towns, etc. Any name that had a nice sound to
it was put on a list. The list was then reviewed and narrowed
down to one: Camloch. There is a Loch in Scotland by the
name of Cam. Putting the two together resulted in Camloch,
a name that was short, easy to pronounce and to my ear,
had a ring to it especially when combined with the word
Collies.
